Yuill & Dodds:

Scrap Tyre Inspection
and Major Repair Case Study

In January 2020 I convinced Brain Yuill, Managing Director of Yuill & Dodds, that there may be some merit in inspecting the tyres in their scrap pile, as they can often be scrapped in error due to lack of knowledge or experience of the Truck Tyre Major Repair process and its scope. Even we were surprised by how successful a project it would be.

There were 385 tyres on site. After an initial inspection to determine obvious scrap (with silver dots in the photos), I removed 93 tyres for a full inspection at our facility in Ayr. We returned an impressive 56 tyres back into service.

The tyres returned figure represented 14.5% usable tyres in their scrap pile, which may have been even more, but I was given a remit of minimum 8mm tread. We returned 599mm of rubber, detailed below.

Overall we repaired 60% of the tyres taken for inspection and immediately became Yuill & Dodds' Major Repair contractors.

We believe in our process and would point to the fact that we have had zero complaints to date as evidence that we are Truck Tyre Major Repair experts as well as Agricutural and Industrial Tyre Major Repair experts.

If you have scrap tyres in your yard, the chances are there could be savings for your company in the form of tyres that could be returned to service, and casings we could purchase from you.
